The heart of most homes is the kitchen, it is a place where people cook, and congregate together. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that kitchens are the most renovated rooms in a home, or that most people utilise a Kitchen Planner to get the best results. A complete redesign of a kitchen can greatly change the effect and function of the living space, raise house value, whilst also improving quality of life.

To help you with your own kitchen planning, here are a few kitchen planner tips to consider when rethinking your design.

Lifestyle/function/space

Your Lifestyle is the first thing to consider when deciding to redesign your kitchen. Make sure you answer the fundamental questions like, how often will the kitchen be used, and by who? Consider the entire space and its capabilities, whilst also noting any limitations. Note these all down in your personal kitchen planner as they will be important further on in the planning process. If you would like to use the kitchen as a function area or dining area, consider having a central island that can be the focal point of the room.  To free up more space, consider which items can be moved into another room such as a washing machine, tumble dryer.

How do you cook/dine

Another thing to note in your kitchen planner are your cooking habits. Do you cook for a large number of people on frequent occasions, or do you only cook for a small number of people? The answer to these questions could have an impact on furniture choices, and layout plans, all of which should be included in your kitchen planner, even the ideas. Your cooking habits could also have an impact on the appliances you decide to have in your kitchen.

Must haves

Speaking of kitchen appliances, it’s important when considering layout and space to pick out the must have appliances first, ie. Fridge, cooker, grill, dishwasher etc. This way you can decide where to position them, you will also know how much space you have left in the room for the rest of your kitchen fittings and can begin to work around them. It’s at this stage that you should start measuring dimensions, so that you exactly what you’re working with.

Inspirations

After you have finished being creative with your positioning you can now get creative with the cabinets and worktops. You can start collecting colour and materials that you would like to use, then mix and match until you have the perfect solution. Keep all of your swatches in your Kitchen Planner so that you can reference them later when speaking to designers.

Consult an interior designer

A very important step to consider after you have got all of your ideas together in a Kitchen Planner is to consult an Interior Designer, who will become your kitchen planner in living form. Interior Designers can help you with fitting advice, any bespoke furniture you may want, and lighting.

When designing your kitchen don’t forget to be really get creative, because for the really great interior designers, like Increation, nothing is impossible. Remember that you can change your mind as much as you need to, as long as you keep in mind these key points, it will be fine.
