What are you doing this Easter weekend?

28th of March 2013– By Tim

Looking for something to do over the Easter weekend?  Why not head along to the Cotswold Decorative Antiques & Fine Art Fair taking place in the magnificence of Westonbirt School.  The annual event, re-launched only a couple of years ago, has a strong emphasis on antiques for interiors drawing in collectors and dealers from every level of the trade.

This year’s stand out exhibitors include John Newton who brings his collection of 1950s Germany Hyalithglas pieces.  Originating in the late 18th century, Hyalith glass was decorated with modern designs using vibrant enamels.  In the late 18th/19th century this type of glass was used to store light sensitive medicines.  The colour remained popular into the late 1960s.  Today, these vases and coffee sets appear both modern and evocative of the post-war period when art and design was undergoing dramatic changes.

Another stand out piece is this late nineteenth century child's rocking horse with its original paint, c1890.  Being exhibited by James Gould from Apollo Antiques in Ashburton, this rare piece is set to sell for £1250.

The fair is open throughout the Easter weekend from 11am to 5pm.
