How to Decorate a Shabby Chic Kitchen
1st September 2009 (All day)
_

Shabby chic style, with a primitive, old fashioned, or country look, is very popular these days. You can decorate any room your house in shabby chic style, but the kitchen is particularly suited to this style, and you won’t be disappointed with the results of your shabby chic interior design.

First, clean your kitchen from top to bottom. If you want to make any changes to the kitchen design, such as hiring cabinet makers for new cupboards, or putting in a new oven, do this before you start to decorate. If you need to hire cabinet makers or kitchen designers, you should do this well in advance.

Interior design should start with the basics. Think about your floors and walls. Are you happy with them as they are? Will they look good against  shabby chic decor?

Next, choose wall cabinets and shelves. Corner shelves and pigeon holes like old wood typeset drawers are particularly suited to the shabby chic style. You may also want to buy other items like towel racks and spice racks to fit your new theme.

Now you need to choose decorative items. Look for old fashioned looking items and antiques like old toys and dolls, coloured glass bottles, old tins, mismatched china, fancy spoons, embroidered handkerchiefs, and lace doilies.

Choose one or two main colours to focus on. These should complement the floor and walls. Choose curtains in one or both of your main colours. Disperse other coloured items amongst the main color items.

For ideas on how to arrange items and decorate, look at some interior design magazines, or vintage issues of women’s magazines.

Creating The Wow Factor In Bespoke Kitchens With Flooring
1st August 2009 (All day)
_

If you are looking to create the wow factor when creating bespoke kitchens you need to look at the type of flooring you want to have in your interior design. You firstly need to establish whether the existing floor has been constructed to cope with heavier materials such as terracotta tiles or stone. If you have wooden floorboards then opt for a lighter material such as wood, vinyl or lino.

* To keep the floor protected from water damage around the sink area use a washable rug

* For those of you with children or older people in the household steer clear of high gloss tiles as these can become dangerously slippery when wet

* To make the floor more soundproof when putting down laminate flooring choose a thick grade of underlay

* Lay the flooring before you get the cabinet makers in as this will ensure that cabinets sit over the kick boards giving a neat and finished look.

* Be clever and buy some extra tiles as tile designs can be discontinued and you may get a breakage at some point

Flooring for bespoke kitchens

There are a variety of materials you can use to really set off designer kitchens. Cork is having something of a revival due to a trend towards eco friendly interior design. Cork is warm on the feet, well cushioned and soundproof. A more classic choice is slate or stone. You’ll need to use an expert as it can get easily damaged.

At Increation Interiors we can advise you on all aspects of the interior design to ensure your kitchen is truly spectacular.

Getting The Kitchen Mix Just Right
1st August 2009 (All day)
_

It is often said that the kitchen is the heart of a home, so when creating expensive kitchen you need kitchen designers who can not only add beauty to your home but value too. Whether you are creating bespoke kitchens with only room for a breakfast bar or designing a huge kitchen space in a large open plan apartment this is the room which needs to marry up so many needs that only expert interior designers are up for the job.

Tips for designer kitchens

Bring new life and design to a kitchen by including an oval or round island. You can add to it a sink, oven or new kitchen space.

If you are confined by space ,consult with your cabinet makers to create some shallow cupboards mounted on the ceiling. Be sure to leave a gap if at least 120 cm between islands and units.

Utilise vaulted or coffered ceilings in order to vary the height in the kitchen. You can effectively create an illusion of space using this method.

Getting in the zone

Think about how you want to define the different areas of activity. You want to avoid guests clogging up your cooking area but you want them close enough so that you can still enjoy a glass of wine with them whilst creating your culinary delights. You can use kitchen islands to split up the kitchen space and one with a high backsplash can be used to screen the rest of the room from dirty dishes.

At Increation Interiors we are expert interior designers based in London and can help you to design your new kitchen.

Small But Perfectly Formed Designer Kitchens
1st July 2009 (All day)
_

Having a small kitchen space may seem like a huge obstacle to your interior design plans at first, but remember less is more! A small kitchen can be transformed into a well functioning, bright workspace.

Sliding doors

Think about whether it would benefit to open up the space by knocking a wall through or whether you should leave it as it is. The former option needn’t mean that you have to live in an open plan living space for ever. Contemporary kitchens can be created using floor-to-ceiling doors which slide open when you want to create more space.

Positioning doors

You can often get into a real lather about the hob, sink and fridge triangle but there is no need to obsess in this way. Locate each one that suits how you cook but think about how the door will open. Your oven door needs to open fully and it may be an idea to use sliding doors on cupboards.

Reach for the heights

No matter what the kitchen shape you can build storage space high up on the walls to maximise your cupboard space. Cabinet makers can design storage space that fits perfectly with the space available. A great effect can be created using units from floor-to-ceiling on one wall.

Perfect space

Aim to leave one wall completely free of clutter and set up a bar or fold down table there with some attractive bar stools. If you have limited space for dining this can be a great option and will make the most of the space available.

At Increation Interiors, we offer expert interior design for your home.
